These are the facts: A) People publish books everday. B) It's a really big deal to complete, let alone publish a novel. These are two things that no writer should ever forget, but the key is to remember the right info at the right time.
Take my case... Before I published Leaving Atlanta, I was paralyzed with anxiety. Could I, little me, could this person that I was actually be a PUBLISHED AUTHOR??? At this time, I was really aware of fact B (that it is a big deal and rare accomplishment to publish a book.)
Okay. Once Leaving Atlanta was in the stores, I realised fact A (that people publish books every single day.) Then, I felt sort of silly for being so proud of myslef and somewhat foolhardy to think that my book, in this sea of books, would make a difference.
But just imagine how my experience would have been different had I thought of the right facts at the right time. Think how comforting it would have been as I scribbled away on my firs tbook to know that ALL SORTS OF PEOPLE PUBLISH BOOKS EVERY DAY! Just think of me, happily typing away drunk on the possibility of it all.
And just imagine how much more satisfied I could have been upon publishing my first book if I culdhave taken longer moment to congratualte myself, lingering the reality of fact B.
So, if you're working on a project, or have just completed one, Keep your facts straight.
