Tayari's Blog: Billboard?

Book Tour
When you have a book coming out, everyone who loves you has an opinion on the best way to market it. Even people who don't love you have thoughts on the matter. Many a stranger, having somehow gotten wind of what I am up to has advised: What you need to do is call Oprah.
Anyway, my dad, not one to be to be left out or outdone, has a bright idea of his own: We'll get you a billboard!
No, we're not putting a billboard on Cascade Rd just in front of the Kroger CityCenter. It seemed like a good idea. Afterall, that is a mighty busy intersection. But Pearl advised against it. "My publisher put up a billboard for one of my books," she said. "It made me a great celebrity in my neighborhood, but I don't think it helped me move any more copies."
Daddy is a smart man and he knows a smart woman when he hears one. So, deferring to the experience of Pearl, he agreed to chip in on hiring an indepedent publicist.
Now, I have two: The fabulous and talented Linda Duggins of Warner Books and Lauren Cerand a free lancer who is very well-known for the Cupcake reading series in NYC.
Between the two of them, I have a very exciting tour lined up.
I feel so lucky. Group hug, ladies.

I think you dad is just probably just your biggest fan and he wants people to know your face and your work as well as he does. Daddies are a little girl's biggest fan even when you're not a little girl anymore.

Well my dear friend, you are soooo incredibly cool. And as I am supporting Delta Airlines flying back and forth between FL and VT, I have spent too many hours at CVG. Maybe our paths will cross soon. Camille has my # so stay in touch! I'm working on getting you two down here (or up there). Any suggestions?

Well looks like your publicist are working - your article in Essence made me want to not only read your books but to find out more about you...hence my journey to your website :) Congratulations.
