Sweet Celeste Quinn interviewed me this afternoon for afternoon magazine for FM580 WILL here in Champaign-Urbana.
Yesterday, after reading my blog entry on larngytis, she called me on the phone. After I croaked, "Hello", she said, "Are you going to be up to an interview tomorrow?"
I assured her I was, but she didn't sound so optimistic. "You sound pretty bad."
This morning, just after I started the "doctor yourself" treatment for my laryngitis, she called again: "Talk to me."
I talked, auditioned really. I chattered for several seconds and waited for her answer.
"You sound pretty weak."
"But I sound so much better," I whined.
"So what do you want to do?"
"Maybe a short interview? Ten minutes?"
When I got to the radio station, I was greeted by Hariet Romer a charming woman with a terrific haircut. She led me to the studio where Celeste waited with all of the notes she had taken from The Untelling. (An interviewer that actually READ the novel!!) She gave me an overview of what we were going to talk about while I squeezed a glob of honey onto a spoon and swallowed it.
The interview lasted only ten minutes, but we really got to the heart of things. I found myself getting excited, talking loud although I had promised myself that I wouldn't strain my voice.
Oh Celeste, you are so very good a what you do! I can't wait until I June 2 when I'll get to be on your show again!
