Tayari's Blog: Report From The Road: Baltimore, MD

Yesterday, I found myself at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in downtown Baltimore as part of the CityLit Festival. It was an eccelectic event. Three venues for presentations all happening at the same time. It was an energetic event. Not what you expect from a public library... and for the most part, this was a good thing.

There were lots of writers there from the much-decorated Quincy Troupe to many self-published authors who took advantage of the free vending spaces to get exposure for their books. I know that this will just be a repeat of what I said about Karibu Books in Hyattsville, but I remain optismistic when I see so many people enthusiastic about reading. This wasn't a brie and grapes crowd, these were regular folks looking for something to do on a gorgeous afternoon and they chose to spend it at the library. I don't care what the NEA report says. Things are looking up!
