The Writing Life
Fifteen readings later, I am back in Champaign-Urbana. Who would imagine that I would weep with joy at the sight of endless cornfields?
The book tour was terrific. I wrapped it up at Eso Wan bookstore in Los Angeles. Chris Abani was good enough to retrieve me from the airport. The audience as small, but enthusiastic. Eso Wan is one of the legendary Black Bookstores. One of the ones that started before New York decided that that were a buck to be made selling low-end romances to black authors. James Fugate opened his store because he wanted a place for black authors and black readers to connect in order to increase our understanding of ourselves and the world.
I'm back home now, tired, but pleased. I've just sorted though three weeks of mail. There was no letter letting me know that I have been made queen of the world, but there were a number of nice cards and notes. Thanks, y'all.

Tayari,
We met during your stay in San Francisco at the Monaco... We just returned from our vacation and I checked out your website. It is beautifully done, and I have enjoyed your offerings. I will be recommending the Untelling to our Book club as I mentioned previously. Thank you for sharing part of you and your talents!
Don't forget to take time out for you, and enjoy a massage and/or a glass of wine sometime. Exhale.
I wish you all the best, take Care and keep writing!

Janine,
I just love being able to say, "I met you at the Hotel Monaco!" Thanks for stopping by my blog. And please tell the members of your book club that I will be glad to send nameplates so everyone can have a signature for their books!
