Tayari's Blog: MYSTERY MAN?

So yesterday, I was riding in the passenger seat of a brown Saturn, waiting at the light on Cascade just at I-20. Coning in the oppsite direction, also stuck in traffic was a man about my age, driving an SUV. I don't remember the color. Anyway, I was talking to Rhonda, who was driving, and I noticed the gentleman in the SUV. I couldn't hear him, obviously-- he was in a whole separate vehicle-- but he seemed to be saying my name. (I mean this literally.) Rhonda was still talking, but I couldn't take my eyes off this very FAMILIAR looking person who was apparently calling me by name-- the hometown pronunciation: Tee-AR-ee. The light changed and he inched forward and when our two vehicles were close enough, he said, quite calmly, TAYARI. Now who could this be? Here are my hunches: he is a member of Benjamin E mays High, class of 1987. He was in the marching band.

Any further info would be greatly appreciated.

i think he was a verifiable fan who saw your picture in essence magazine and then went to the newstand and bought every copy. he has used your image to decoupage his whole apartment and even has pretty tayari wine glasses with your face at the bottom smiling at whomever is lucky enough to empty the glass. when he saw you at that intersection, he understood that fate had put you in his path...right now, he's at home frantically scribbling down potential names for your first born that are each a combination of your name and his...now, how to actually meet...

did i mention that he's an investment banker with a winter home in st. maartin and a summer home in aspen...oh, and a frustrated writer who is terribly talented but has no stomach for the biz of it...

or, he could be someone from marching band....
