So many folks visit my blog looking for news about Pearl Cleage's poem, "We Speak Your Name." I have some good news! Here is a direct quote from Miz Cleage herself!

It will be published by Ballentine late in the year as a gift book. There will be pictures of me reading the poem and lovely lovely photos of all of the women who attended the function at Oprah's!

There you have it.

Hi,

I am a South African male who has just relocated to the US for study. I read this poem after I bought the O magazine at Atlanta airport and have been wondering where to get the entire copy. It is an amazing piece of writing. I hope to read it out to all those who made my journey in life up to this far possible. How else would we be here if 'We couldn't speak of their names'?

Thank you for the publishing information as well.

I read the excerpts from this poem and was moved to tears. It gave me the idea to bridge the gap with some of the young women I know who don't have a clue who paved the way for them. I was going to read the poem at this party only to find out it would not be published in time for this event, so I will read the excerpts. Thanks so much

Is there ANY way readers can influence the publication date? This would be a wonderful Christmas gift. The Random House site does not have a "contact us" link.

I would go for publishing a series of white papers. This tactic works wonderfully.

I have not been able to find this poem! I know the book will not be released until 2006, but is there a way to get a copy of the poem???

Well, that sucks. I thought of it as a 'public offering.' a gift. Will a portion of the proceeds benefit a charity? I'll transcribe it from the actual show.
