Book Tour
Well, I am in here in Corcord, Massachusetts. I would say that I am here at the book festival, but so far, I have no evidence that such a festival is taking place. I am in an adorable Bed and Breakfast just across from the house where Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Women ad I have seen a couple of fliers that would suggest that a festival is happening.. happening RIGHT now as I type this, but I haven't seen a thing. My reading is at 3pm. Word on the street is that someone will pick me up at 2:40. I'll keep you posted.
Anyway, so I am staying in this lovely B&B called "Hawthorne Inn." The rooms are pretty and sweet-smelling, the proprietress is generous with the food and the recipes that make it all possible. That's the good part.
The bad part is that is a Bread and BREAKFAST. For lunch and dinner, you're own your own, Kiddo. Last night, I was out foraging for food. I ended up walking about a mile or so to the main drag. I passed lots of historical places, like the Alcott house. (I didn't go in, however. At that point, if it was not the ALCOTT BAR AND GRILL I wasn't interested.)
As I was tootling along, I passed a home that dated back to 1645. I forget what all was on the sign, but it mentioned that Jim the Slave had earned his freedom here by making shoes. I mean, good for Jim for getting his freedom, but knowing that he was a slave in the first place just didn't put me in a chipper mood as I walked through the damp evening looking for a restaurant. You know, that is the problem with historical places, there's just so much HISTORY there.
Anyway, I found the restaurant. I ate. I ate more. Dessert too. By then, it was dark as I tried to find my way back to the Hawthorne Inn. Things were fine until I went the wrong way at the fork in the road. I called my mommy on my cell phone, but alas, she couldn't help me. I kept inching through the night, complimenting myself on having the foresight to bring hat and gloves. (Good Self, smart Self!). Finally, when I thought I saw the Headless Horseman at the turnoff to Sleepy Hollow cemetary, I called the proprietress of the B&B. She guided me back in and gave me a cupcake. I gave myself a Tylenol PM which I washed down with the cup of chamomille tea she set on a pretty tray decorated with a lace doiley.
I'll post again tomorrow to tell you about the actual festival.

Concord is such a lovely town. I went there in August with two friends of mine and we had a wonderful walking around town and visiting Hawthorne's house as well as the Alcott House and Walden Pond. Walden Grille has very good food and if you get a chance, check out Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where Alcott, Hawthorne, Thoreau, and Emerson are buried.
Have fun at your reading and the festival!
