The Writing Life
Well, here is my new headshot, taken by the wonderful Marion Ettlinger. The
woman is a magician. I am quite pleased with the picture, but now I am feeling a little weird after seeing this blog post that sort of pokes fun at writers who don't quite live up to their author photos. (thx, mermama)
I guess this means a sweet farewell to my old photo that you can see on the left side of this page. It was taken by my good buddy, Rick Powers, who has just been nominated for the National Book Award. Congrats, my friend. You deserve this and more.
UPDATE: My author photo is giving Sarah deja vu! What's your opinion?

Absolutely worth the ride on the hound, the extra suitcases, and the trip to NYC. Great photo--although I'll miss the older one, which has a contemplative writerly quality.
Best,
Caroline

I think your photo makes you look both sophisticated and a bit mysterious, like "I wonder what she's thinking?"
Enjoy your new look and don't fall into the trap of caring what other people think. Some of them are insecure with their photos, their work and all that comparison stuff. You are a proven commodity and believe in your work. You look good. Enjoy that.

Hey Tayari... why can't you keep both of them? Or is it that you're just ready for a change?

No deja. No vu. Your picture has a different feel-more close up and intimate. And it's lovely.

Beautiful picture. It is very Sophisticated. I also like the old one. Have I told you lately that I love your blog and website. I wish other authors that I read would model your creative example.

No doubt about it -- that photo is dynamite! You look fabulous. I love your earlier picture too, but in this photo you seem to have grown up. Pretty accurate for a successful writer working on her third book. And I don't think anyone will be disappointed when they see you in person. Your essence and beauty shine through both photos.

WOW...Ms. Tayari, this photo is amazing. I'm so glad you got this done since you were suitcase shuttling and all. Keep workin' it, sophisticated lady.
