For those of us not ashamed to show our age. Here's Jennifer Holliday, who played Effie in the Broadway production. Listen to her sing "And I Am Telling You," at the 1982 Tony Awards.

Oh, boy! Memory lane...(for those of us not ashamed to show our age). I saw Dreamgirls years ago after Holiday had left the production. My husband (who had never seen Dreamgirls) couldn't understand why everybody on the Apollo show was always trying to sing this song. Sooo, when Dreamgirls came to Atlanta, and Jennifer Holiday toured with them, I took him to see it. You have not heard this song sung, until you've heard Holiday LIVE. Let me tell you...she received a 5-10 minute standing ovation. After all of these years, and even after loosing weight, that woman brought tears to my eyes, and the recorded version just doesn't do it justice.
