Only 34 women overall is bad enough, but looking at the breakdown by category is really sad. None in Economics, only 5 in chemistry and physics combined (3 going to people named Curie!) and a smattering in medicine. The greatest number by far go to women in literature and peace - more traditionally areas in which women are perceived to make a greater contribution. The situation is the same, but worse, for Black people. The stereotypes prevail again!

I would really like to see Alice Munro win a Nobel. It seems like the "quiet" writers don't win these kinds of awards as often. Maybe I'm wrong.
