Ben & Jerry's has named an ice-cream for Barack Obama-- this may the pinnacle of pop-culture liberalism. The ice-cream is called (drum roll please...)YES, PECAN!

As Ladylee would say, *crickets*.

See, where I come from we say p-e-c-a-n as "puh-CAHN". So I was saying aloud "Yes, Puh-CAHN?" Then, I looked around me, surrounded by northerners and got it. "Yes, Pee-CAN!", rhymes with "Yes, We Can!" Cute, I guess.

Granted, I am sensitive, but I felt a little left out of the joke.

(Old Sewanee Cohort) Drew notes that he also says something like Pih-CAHN but wonders if--all the way over in Georgia--you ever had/heard of Lane Cake? It's more of a central Alabama thing but I thought it might shade eastward a bit. Be well.

Wow T., I am familiar with both pronunciations, but I didn't realized that my neighbors to the north differed from us Floridians on 'pee-cans'. "Pecan tan" is one of my favorite color references from childhood.

According to the site, the "Yes, Pecan" is in jeopardy due to the regional differences you experienced and some questions as to the originality of the phrase.
