March-April make up the high season for rejections. Late December and January is application season and everyone walks around all high on what-if. But reality hits in early spring. Thank goodness for the time change. When I came home from work and saw the thin envelope from MacDowell, the sun was still out and it was warm enough that I didn't have my coat on.

I am walking around now on pins and needles. I only applied to two colonies this year because I was embroiled in all manner of personal drama and failed to get my applications in on time. The best bet is to apply to four colonies in order to get a summer spot. So, this time I may be forced to *gasp* write AT HOME.

Fingers crossed for Blue Mountain, y'all.

i hate those thin envelopes.
but, your brilliance cannot be contained in an envelope of any size.
this is the beginning of running-to-the-mailbox season for me too. ... i am still looking for a fat envelope From Ford, after being dissed 3 years in a row.
Lighting a Blue Mt. candle for you today!

Hi Tayari -- I got my MacDowell rejection yesterday too. I'm waiting on two more: Yaddo (within the week, I think) and Saltonstall. I wish I'd applied to Blue Mountain too but I just pooped out after three this time around. Trying to figure out a Plan B to write during my summer vacation -- it's too hot in my apartment and too noisy at Starbucks. I'm looking at the good old public library, most likely.

I have a strong feeling you're going to be at Blue Mountain this summer. It sure looks pretty up there. Fingers crossed for you!

Rejections suck. I've been rejected by two PhD programs this week. Devastating. I worked so hard on my applications, and all of my mentors/profs from my MFA program believed in my writing sample. And of course, today my class is being observed, and I have to be "on" despite having my heart broken. Ugh!!!!:(

Wow, I only applied to one colony, last year, and when I was rejected I curled up. You're a published author and a teacher and you've been rejected?! Somehow I feel much better.

I plan to take a personal writing retreat at least twice a year -- away from my home. Maybe in a cabin somewhere. I was going to do that the week before Xmas and got into "personal drama" myself.
