I just went to the Mid Atlantic Arts Council Site and saw that we are two weeks away for the deadline for New Jersey State Grants for
individual artists. Luckily, the application is low drama-- 10-15 page sample, basically. A couple of easy forms to fill out. I have been all over the website and I can't figure how much the grants are. Usually, they are for somewhere between $3,000- 7,000. That's a nice little chunk of change.
I would like everyone to google your state arts council and see when your deadline is. If you can, leave the info in comments for others folks' benefit.
If you know of other opportunities, let me know. I am so BUMMED that I missed the NEA deadline. Now I have to wait two more years!

Oh, man, I missed it too! I gotta write this stuff down in my calendar. Hope everything's fine and mellow up at Blue Mountain.

Okay, you know I'm seeing *crickets* since this is not my area, but I googled and found the Arts Council for Georgia.

Tayari, you're cool. We're up next year, in 09. So, not two years, just one. It's poets for this year, they were due March 2008.
We're good. Get ready. You've got 9 months.

Connecticut gives out $2500 and $5000 artist grants to different categories in alternating years. The upcoming round (apps are not up yet) is for, among others, fiction writers, poets, and playwrights.
Here's the page to watch (sorry I could not find a shorter URL):

Although the deadline for NJ is July 15, I hit send on my app about an hour before seeing this post. Only reason it got done is that I put it in my calendar in red ink months ago and I knew it had to be done before I head off to my final MFA residency.
Calendars - and red ink folks -- are absolutely the only things that assure I go through with anything in my writing life!
It's my first time so I'm sure I made a lot of stupid beginner mistakes on my app (like for example, completely forgetting to list some recent awards - duh!), but I figure, like anything else, practice can't hurt.
I see they had free in-person application help sessions around the state; that wasn't in my calendar, but maybe folks in other states can find one.
