Tayari's Blog: If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another

This is usually a pretty up-beat blog, but there is a lot of woe on the internet today.Okay. Here we go. In no particular order.

  • The all-black issue of Vogue? File it under one step forward, two steps back.
  • What do you do when you get a letter from an editor using out-right racist language?
  • What happens when you make a book deal, but never write the book? Just ask Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown.
  • Lemons: there are death threats against you because of your book. Lemonade: you can make your police protectors pay you rent!
  • There's not enough money to bring "For Colored Girls" to Broadway, afterall.
  • This is really annoying.
  • I tried to go to my favorite local coffee shop to unwind with a Fizzie Lizzie and a pastry. When I got there, it was CLOSED DOWN!
  • I need a hug!

Sometimes all the news you hear just brings you down like there hasn't been any progress. Hang in there. Good news is coming.

Also it is hard to find a good cafe, one that's comfortable and cosier enough to get in a writing mindset. starbucks commercialism drains any creative inspiration out of me. i used to take the path train to a cafe in manhattan called doma. it has a relax atmosphere, comfy but sturdy furniture, great desserts and food. lots of people write and do freelance there, so they're productivity pushes me to actually get some writing done. doma is on perry & 7th ave behind the village vanguard if you ever want to check it out. i'm moving to hong kong and will sorely miss it.

That is terrible! I'd love to see it on Broadway. I'd have to dig deep down into my pockets (and probably someone else's pockets, too) to go, but I definitely would have tried to get there.

    You've totally earned a hug.

Also, I was really excited about seeing "For Colored Girls" on Broadway.

    Damn.
