Current Events
In my contemporary African-American literature class, we read Anthony Groom's magnificent novel, Bombingham. This is the 45th anniversary of the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham.
We also watched Spike Lee's heartbreaking documentary, 4 Little Girls.
And Stereohyped points out the link between that disgraceful happening and a recent attack on an Ohio mosque. (Weigh in, Mr. Obama. Weigh in, Mr. McCain! To remember "I have a dream" without remembering the other events of that important year is a crime.)

"Bombingham" is one of those superb novels that sees to have fallen between the cracks. I'm glad that your students read it on this very painful anniversary.
