If only James Frey had released his books as fiction..... I find him a talented writer, but I won't spend money on him ever again after the Oprah fiasco. I felt so used and that it was so unnecessary. As for why he keeps popping up? Can you stop a writer from writing if that is his passion? He is talented even if morally corrupt.

I am also puzzled by Oprah's selections and have concluded that Oprah is not picking these books. I am convinced that whoever is doing the reading and reviewing has no real interest in books by blacks. When I see a list of books she recommends, I know that I won't be buying them and probably won't check them out from the library either. Her selections are for an audience that doesn't keep me in mind.

Re: Oprah's list...wow. I agree, I don't think this is *her* list, but someone on her staff. Someone white, young, and inexperienced too! A couple of these are of interest (the revised "Movable Feast" for example) but the others??? I think some NYC book publicists are VERY happy right now...
