I *Heart* Target

I am thrilled to pieces that Target has chosen The Untelling as a “breakout book”! This means it will be featured in all 1,431 Target stores all around the country.
Are you thinking: “They sell books at Target?”
Yes, they do. And I think that Target just may be our new favorite bookstore.

Let me go on record as saying even it it’s true that Target is a french owned company, I love that store. Why, you ask? What would make a grown woman declare her love for a store and a discount store at that? Where I live, the stores are always clean, the aisles wide, the merchandise very current, the prices unusually reasonable. The number one reason I love that store is because they color coordinate. Yep. Check it out. You’ve seen the commercials and the innovative way they present products. Well, the next time you are in a Target, notice how the items are shelved. It’s just fun to find what you are looking for and to find that artistic touch. Not just Tide, but rows and rows of Tide all with the handles turned the same way.
Maybe when I retire, I will put working at Target, wearing the red shirt, as one of the jobs to check off my list of things to try. It should provide some great material for a short story.
Yes, Target sells books, videos and CDs, too. The books are discounted and usually only the latest ones that are selling well. I suspect your book will get thrown in a shopping cart, especially if there is a picture of you along with it, know what I mean?
As the kids say, looks like you are just “blowing up!”

Awesome, Tayari! I think it’s great how more and more retailers are creating programs to promote work by “emerging”/”breakout” writers, and how such programs expose literature to a wider audience!

congratulations!! i didnt care too much for target, but now i do. still am not sure if id buy a book from there. but remember, the former manager of the karibu books in bowie been announced your book was the breakaway paperback of the year. he just aint get too much attention cause he always recommended something and it was the conflict of interest thing being that a character named dwayne figures prominently in your book and that’s his name. be well and congratulations again.

    Good evening, Tayari,
I went through the search engine to see if my book was listed and I saw your blog again. I stopped by to see if you have any new books out and see what you’re up to lately. I hope you’re working on the next creation because I still recommend “Leaving Atlanta” on my recommendations page at http://www.geocities.com/maroondiva/Recommendations.html.
